More on Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is an effective form of health care that has evolved into a complete and holistic medical system. I use fine, sterile needles at specific acupuncture points on the body. This activates Qi (energy) and promotes natural healing by enhancing re-cooperative power, immunity, physical and emotional health. It can also improve overall function and a general sense well-being. It is a safe, painless and effective way to treat a variety of medical problems.

With regular treatments Acupuncture can aid in preventing, treating, and supporting the following syndromes, symptoms, and populations.

herbsHerbal Medicine In Chinese Medicine, herbal formulas are used to facilitate the body's own restorative processes. Acupuncturists in California are highly trained in the science of herbal medicine and a pharmacopoeia that consists of about 500 Chinese herbs. Chinese herbal formulas contain combinations of roots, seeds, grains, flowers, berries, fruit, bark, leaves, stems, shells, nuts, resin, or seaweed. The goal of Chinese herbal medicine is to treat the root of a problem, rather than simply medicating its symptoms. In so doing, the patient’s body is stimulated to heal itself. If appropriate a personalized formula will be made for you.

Moxibustion (or ‘moxa’ for short) is the act of burning the herb Ai Ye (Artmesia Vulgaris, or mugwort) over specific acupuncture points. This process facilitates the movement of Qi and blood and warms the body. Moxibustion is highly effective in treating infertility, malposition & breech presentation of the fetus, menstrual pain, fatigue, digestive disorders, and chronic injuries.

Cupping is an ancient technique in which glass cups are placed on large areas of the body (such as the back or shoulders) to create suction, increasing local circulation of blood and Qi. Cupping is excellent for detoxification, reducing inflammation, muscle pain and arthritis. It also treats fevers, the common cold, flu, and asthma. A vacuum is created by either using heat or suction, and they then may be moved or left in place. Sometimes dark red marks are left afterwards, showing the deep stagnation that has been released.

Gua Sa (pronounced gwa sha) Is another technique to release muscle tension, as well to release the superficial layer to address and release the onset of a cold. A tool is used to gently scrap or rub over a problem area. This too will leave markings on the body for a few days.

Essential Oils Aromatherapy is a general term to describe the use of volatile liquid plant materials, known as essential oils, that are used to affect a person's mood or health. Essential oils are used in combination with acupuncture or energy work in my sessions to facilitate another layer of nourishing healing. I use only top-grade, sustainable, Eco-Cert or Organic, and/or non-sprayed essential oils.

Crystals and Sacred Stone
I use crystals and stones from the earth to enhance and deepen the energetic layer of the treatment. They harmonize ones energy centers with the frequencies of the planet and the local environment.

Electrical Stimulation Tiny electrodes are attached to acupuncture needles to transmit a gentle current of electricity for chronic pain relief, post-stroke rehabilitation, facial rejuvenation, or to increase blood flow to the uterus. "E-stim" acupuncture may be useful when traditional acupuncture has not yielded results.
